I am looking to collect unpublished records of a genealogical nature and to put them in proper form to establish our own NSNEW Library, much like other societies have done.
TYPES OF RECORDS TO COPY:
The range of genealogical records is very wide and includes the following: county and town deeds, marriage, and vital records; wills and estates; courts order books, and tax lists; town council minutes; parish registers of marriage, births and deaths; church vestry minutes or session books; Bible records; church records; school censuses; newspaper accounts of birth, death, and marriage; tombstone inscriptions and cemetery records; funeral home records; family histories, diaries. Paper and letters found in manuscripts collections in libraries, historical societies and private collections. To start this project, I would like to first concentrate ONLY on Bible records, but other types will be accepted.
COPYING BIBLE RECORDS:
Bible records are traditionally a major component of Genealogical records reports. Photocopy the genealogical record pages in the Bible, the Bibles title page, and its copyright page (if date of publication is not shown on the title page). For clarity and readability, interleaf a typewritten copy of the genealogical record pages with the photocopies of those pages. If you know the place (city/town, county, state) of any event recorded in the Bible, add that date in brackets on the typed sheets. Include years the Bible was in use. (Click here to see a sample Bible Title page.)
PAPER & MARGINS Use size 8 ½ x 11 papers. Never use onion skin paper or provide carbon copies of records. Acid free is not required, it is preferred. The left margin of your page must be 1 ½ to allow for binding. Allow at least 1 for each of the other three sides.
ARRANGEMENT OF MATERIAL ON THE PAGE- Do not crowd your typing or spread it out unnecessarily. Use one side of the paper only, single-spaced or 1 ½ spaces between lines. Have a good black ribbon in your typewriter or printer. Present the records in the sequence in which they appear originally and do not rearrange any material. Copy the material exactly as it appears. Do not correct misspellings, perceived or actual. If a word or words can not be read, leave space and type (illegible) at that point. Photocopies are considered original typewritten/ printed copy. Be sure to submit the name of your Colony and the person that is in possession of the Bible. Two copies should be made, one to remain in your Colony, the other send to me:
